In desperate need to get rid of your cold? We’re sharing grandma’s TWO best ever ‘cure’ for our colds. For the record, Grandma isn’t a doctor and, as far as we know, didn’t study medicine either. But we’ve never seen her with a cold…
So what is it?
Cold Cure 1
1. Honey
2. Lemon
3. Ginger
4. A likkle Wray & Nephew’s White Rum (optional)
How much you’ll need
Half-fill a small white plastic cup with equal parts of Rum, honey and lemon.
How to take it
You can drink it in one go but Wray & Nephew burns your chest. We suggest you spoon-feed yourself to avoid choking. Also, taking it a bit at a time gives it time to work – at least that’s what grandma says.
You should be extremely wrapped up when taking this – I’m mean: jumper, dressing gown and quilt or blanket – so you can sweat buckets. If you take this before bed (as it will most likely knock you out), you’ll wake up feeling completely different – without the hangover.
We’re not sure what it is about the combination of rum, honey and lemon, but we know whenever we’ve taken it, that niggling cold disappears.
Give it a try but don’t take this before you’re about to drive or use machinery – Grandma would not approve.
Cold Cure 2
Don’t want the alcohol? Try this instead
We love our liquor but we also had grandma’s other remedy – before we were allowed to drink.
- 2 cloves of crushed garlic
- 1 root of crushed ginger
- 4 slices of lemon, plus the juice of 1/2 lemon
- 1 lime
- Sweeten with honey (until you’re happy with the taste)
Thanks, Grandma.
So there you have it; the Caribbean way to get rid of your cold. Which one are you going to try?
