Ackee, Saltfish & Callaloo Pizza recipe. The ingredients sound out of the ordinary, but believe us they come together to make a fantastic tasting pizza! Ackee, saltfish and callaloo is one of the Caribbean main dishes, and is often eaten with Fried Dumplings  so the pizza flour base gives the same compliment and the cheese adds a great addition to bring everything together. Ackee and Saltfish — Jamaica’s national dish — transformed into a bold, flavour-packed pizza. Topped with sautéed callaloo, sweet peppers and melted cheese, this fusion recipe brings culture and comfort together in every slice.

Perfect for family nights or something different from the usual takeaway.

???? Ingredients

For the Topping

  • 540g tin ackee, drained

  • 1 pack saltfish (approx. 250–300g), boneless

  • 540g tin callaloo, drained

  • 1 tomato, diced

  • 1 onion, diced

  • ¼ green bell pepper, sliced

  • ¼ red bell pepper, sliced

  • ¼ yellow bell pepper, sliced

  • ¼ cup spring onions, sliced

  • 1 scotch bonnet, finely chopped (optional)

  • ½ tsp black pepper

  • 1 tsp dried thyme

  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil

For Assembly

  • 1 ready-made pizza base

  • 2–3 tbsp tomato pasta sauce (or tomato ketchup)

  • 150–200g mozzarella or cheddar cheese, grated

  • 1 tsp olive oil (for drizzling)

  • 500g plain flour

  • 7g sachet dried yeast

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 300ml warm water

(Mix, knead for 8–10 minutes, prove for 1 hour, then roll out.)


????????‍???? Method

1️⃣ Prepare the Saltfish

  1. Place saltfish in a pot and boil for 10 minutes.

  2. Drain and repeat once or twice to remove excess salt.

  3. Flake into small pieces and set aside.


2️⃣ Make the Ackee & Saltfish Topping

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat.

  2. Add onion, tomato, bell peppers, spring onions and scotch bonnet.

  3. Season with black pepper and cook for 4–5 minutes until softened.

  4. Add flaked saltfish and cook for 5 minutes.

  5. Drain callaloo and stir into the pan. Cook for 2–3 minutes.

  6. Gently fold in drained ackee. Simmer for 5 minutes, stirring carefully to avoid breaking the ackee.

Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly.


3️⃣ Assemble the Pizza

  1. Preheat oven to 200°C (fan 180°C).

  2. Lightly grease a baking tray with oil.

  3. Place pizza base onto tray.

  4. Spread tomato sauce evenly over the base.

  5. Sprinkle a light layer of cheese.

  6. Evenly spread the ackee, saltfish and callaloo mixture over the base.

  7. Top with remaining cheese.

  8. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle thyme on top.


4️⃣ Bake

Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the crust is golden and cheese is melted and bubbling.
