Traditional Jamaican Ginger Beer

(Alcoholic or Non-Alcoholic)

A classic Jamaican drink made with fresh ginger, lime and sugar. Naturally sweet with a bold ginger kick. Serve it alcohol-free or add a splash of rum for a proper Caribbean twist.

Ingredients

  • 140g (1 cup) fresh ginger, peeled and chopped

  • 1 clove

  • Juice of 2 limes

  • ½ cup sugar (adjust to taste)

  • 2 cups sparkling water or spring water

  • Ice, to serve

Optional (Alcoholic Version):

  • 2 shots white rum (e.g. Wray & Nephew)


Method

  1. Peel the ginger and chop into small pieces.

  2. Add the ginger to a blender along with the clove, sugar and lime juice.

  3. Pour in the water and add the rum if using.

  4. Blend for 3–5 minutes until well combined.

  5. Strain if preferred, or serve as is for a stronger ginger kick.

  6. Serve over ice with a slice of lime.
