Pepper steak is a stir-fried Jamican dish everybody loves. This dish consists of sliced beef steak cooked with sliced green and/or red bell peppers and carrots with a variety of spices, thickened with cornstarch to produce a tasty thick gravy.
Original Flava’s Pepper steak
- 1lb of Steak (cut into strips)
- 4 cloves Garlic
- 1 chopped onion
- 1Tsp. Salt
- 1tsp. black pepper
- 1tbsp All-purpose seasoning
- 1tbsp thyme
- 1 scotch bonnet pepper
- 1tbsp. soy sauce/browning
- ½ cup of corn-starch/cornflour
- ½ cup of beef broth
- 1tsp. pimento seeds/ all spice
- 1tbsp olive oil/cooking oil
- Firstly wash beef with water and lemon- Cut into strips
- Season beef with 1tsp. salt, 1tsp. Black pepper, 1tbsp. thyme, 1tbsp paprika, 1tbsp. all-purpose seasoning and marinate over night in the fridge
- Then use a frying pan with 1tbsp of olive oil on medium high heat and fry Onions, garlic and scotch bonnet pepper (all chopped) for 3-5 mins.
- Remove Onions, garlic, scotch bonnet out of the frying pan and put aside.
- Then in remaining pan cook the beef until brown for 15 mins.
- Add 1 tbsp. of pimento seeds/all spice and ½ cup of beef broth.
- Then add 1tbsp of soy sauce/browning and cook until meat is browned.
- Bring the fried onions, garlic and scotch bonnet back into the pan and cook with the beef for 5 mins
- Then add your mixed peppers and carrots to the pan and mix together.
- Then add you’re your ½ cup of corn-starch mixed with water and mix until juices thicken.
- Simmer for 20-30 mins until meat is tender, and then serve.
