FRIED DUMPLINGS (AIR FRYER)

Jamaican Dumplings in an air fryer ????????

Welcome to our Jamaican Air Fryer series — where we try Jamaican classics in an air fryer & see if it actually tastes good!

A Jamaican staple, loved for its crisp golden outside and soft, fluffy centre. Traditionally fried, this air fryer version offers a lighter approach while still delivering that familiar texture and flavour.

INGREDIENTS

•250g self-raising flour

•1 tbsp sugar

•½ tsp salt

•25g butter, melted

•120–150ml water

•1 tsp olive oil (plus extra for spraying)

METHOD

1.Make the dough

In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar and salt. Add the melted butter and mix together. Gradually pour in the water, mixing to form a soft dough.

2.Knead

Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 2–3 minutes until smooth. Add a small amount of olive oil and knead again to help keep the dumplings soft and moist.

3.Shape the dumplings

Divide the dough into 6–8 equal portions and roll into balls. Create a small indentation (dimple) in the centre of each dumpling.

4.Prepare for cooking

Line the air fryer basket with baking paper and arrange the dumplings inside, leaving space between each one. Lightly spray or brush with oil.

5.Cook

Air fry at 180°C for 15 minutes, turning halfway through cooking. Use a fork to gently pierce the centre of each dumpling to help them cook evenly.

6.Finish

Cook until golden on the outside and soft in the centre.
